BMI View: Zimbabwe’s agricultural sector is vulnerable to unfavourable weather, as well as a lack of fertiliser, investment and government support, representing threats to our overall optimistic outlook. The recent outbreak of Spodoptera frugiperda (army worm) in January, which affected half of Zimbabwe’s 10 provinces, has prompted us to downgrade our 2012/13 corn production forecast. That said, given the scale of problems faced by wheat producers, we continue to see corn outperforming in the medium-to-long term.
